MARION, Iowa (CBS2/FOX28) – A building boom in Marion meant a new look for the real estate showcase tour this year. The annual Uptown open house normally focuses on commercial opportunities, but Thursday night it brought attention to living spaces.
UpTown Marion Program Director Brooke Prouty says a number of spacious apartments and condos are either ready for lease or are under construction. Uptown promoters say after so much retail progress in the area, many more people are saying they want to live where they shop. After seeing what’s happened for loft renovations in older buildings in Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Dubuque, Prouty says it’s definitely Marion’s time, “ I think we’re right on the cusp of seeing it blow up. We have some really cool spaces like this right now and you’re just going to see more of those in the coming few years. You have a lot of great bars and restaurants popping up around the district and Uptown Arts so it’s really a happening place.”
Prouty says empty nesters and younger professionals moving back to the area are among those fueling the development of even more living spaces in Uptown Marion.
