Recalling the Life of Legendary Coach

October 7 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

The impact and continuing influence of a legendary Marion coach will be recalled by the author of his life story in a presentation at the Marion Heritage Center and Museum on Sunday, October 7, at 1:30 p.m.  The speaker will be Dan Kellams, drawing on his locally popular book, “A Coach’s Life: Les Hipple and the Marion Indians.” Kellams, a 1954 Marion High School graduate, played four sports under Hipple. Kellams spent 10 years writing the book, finding time for it during breaks in his work as a freelance writer and editor in New York City.  This is the second of a series of programs about the current exhibit 150 Years of Marion Sports, which runs through April 28, 2019.  Admission to the program and the exhibit is free courtesy of a grant from the McIntyre Foundation of Cedar Rapids.  A reception and refreshments will be offered after the program.
