Brides and grooms race to the altar in Marion
MARION (KWWL) – Dozens of runners, looking like brides and grooms, ushers and bridesmaids took to the streets of Marion for the first ever ‘Uptown Marion Race to the Altar 5K’ Sunday morning.
The event raises money for Marion’s Main Street program which works to drive economic development within the historic central business district.
Organizers say the idea for a bridal theme came about a year ago.
“We have a high number that support the wedding industry whether it be party favors, custom design jewelry, tuxedos. And so when we added them up it was really thirty unique businesses and so we’re kind of using that theme to collectively promote everyone today,” said Nick Glew, Uptown Marion Program Director.
The 5K race was the first of two bridal-themed events Sunday. Uptown Marion also hosted a bridal walk fashion show.
