Open 4 Business Competition to Award Seed Money for Main Street Business

Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority are excited to announce a new program to help business development efforts in Iowa’s Main Street districts around the state. The Open 4 Business competition is a chance for local entrepreneurs and small businesses to grow their business idea in Uptown Marion – A Main Street Iowa District.

Uptown Marion will host a local pitch competition on Friday, May 22, 2015. The winner of Uptown Marion’s Open 4 Business Competition will receive $500 and advance to the Regional Open 4 Business Completion in June for a chance to win an additional $8,000. Regional winners from across the state will convene on August 26, 2015 in Historic Valley Junction for the Statewide Competition. One state winner will take home an additional $20,000 in seed money for their business endeavor.


“The Open 4 Business Competition will provide a startup interested in launching their business in Uptown Marion, or a current business in the district looking to expand, an opportunity to test their idea risk-free and have a chance to win some seed money in doing so,” stated Ashley Zierath, Director of Uptown Marion.

Assisting sustainable businesses that will grow and thrive within the Main Street districts across the state are the desired outcome of this type of program.
