MARION — Korrina Dawson had been managing a spa and billiards store, but she knew she wanted to make a change.
She had been interested in the perceived natural healing elements in crystals and gemstones just about all her life, she said, so opened ReAlive Metaphysical & Repurposing in Marion two and a half years ago.
“I’d always been into stones while growing up,” she said. “I thought everybody lived intuitively like that and didn’t realize I was receiving anything that anybody else didn’t.”
The store offers a range of products that include healing crystals and gemstones, essential oils, handmade jewelry, wind chimes, self-help books and music CDs, in addition to repurposed furniture and salvaged home decor and ironware.
After leaving the billiards store, Dawson attended the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show to begin acquiring the merchandise she would need to get her business launched. It also was where she first met the vendors with whom she does business today.
“Tucson has the largest gem and mineral show in the world, so everybody that’s anybody is at that show,” she noted.
She goes out every year in addition to the show in Denver in search of stones to bring back to the shop.
“I don’t like to buy things online,” she added. “I like to handpick all my stones. I want to know where they are coming from — I want to meet the guy that has them and see the quality so I know what I am getting.”
For someone interested in getting started with stones, Dawson believes rose quartz is a must.
“Most people struggle with self-love and care,” she said. “Rose quartz is self-love, and it speaks to symbolism. Sometimes just seeing that stone sitting there can remind you to ask yourself if you are taking care of yourself on a particular day.”
Dawson labels things in her shop to explain the meanings associated with various items.
Class offerings also are part of the mix. Dawson holds Serendipity Saturdays, for example, during which massage therapists come in and healing sessions are offered. Instruction on chakras and chakra-clearing sessions also are available as well as access to astrology and numerology programs.
“This is a place people can come to no matter what they believe, and (feel) open and safe,” she noted.
The building that houses her business is owned by Scott’s Antiques of Marion, “and Scott was looking to also have a place where he could show some of his unfinished furniture and ironware for sale,” Dawson said.
The repurposing side of the business is housed at the back of the store, along with reclaimed and repainted vintage pieces of furniture and wall décor.
“The basement to this building is full of stripped furniture,” she said, “and there are tons of chairs down there right now.”
