Uptown Getdown Celebrates 25 Years, Welcomes Back a Fan Favorite
August 3 will kick off the 25th year of the Uptown Getdown music series hosted by the Marion Chamber of Commerce. The event will be held on 7th Avenue adjacent to City Square Park, in anticipation of construction beginning in the park later in August. Attendees will enjoy live music, great food, and family fun at this free event.
Uptown Getdown welcomes back Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bob Dorr on August 3. Bob kicked off the series for several years with the Blue Band. This performance will feature his longtime bandmate of over 40 years, Jeff Petersen.
The Detour Band takes the stage on August 10, performing classic and top country and 70-80s rock. On August 17, crowd favorite from last year, Trophy Dads, brings their dad humor and 90s rock. The series will wrap up on August 24 with country favorite Boot Jack Band.
In preparation for the event, 7th Avenue between 10th Street and 12th Street will close to traffic at 2 p.m. and reopen at approximately 10 p.m. Motorists are encouraged to follow marked detours on 6th Avenue. All businesses will remain open.
Admission is free to the public thanks to these Marion Chamber Platinum Community Partners – Farmers State Bank, ImOn Communications, MercyCare Community Physicians, Summit Pointe Senior Living, and Z102.9 The event is produced by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and Uptown Marion District with support from the City of Marion Hotel/Motel Fund.
