Ham Radio with Joe Spinks

Joe Spinks, former City of Marion Council member, will present a program about the hobby of ham radio on Sunday, Sept. 15 fro 1:30 to 3:30 pm at the Marion Heritage Center & Museum. Joe and Teresa Spinks have lived in Marion for 40 years. He worked at Rockwell Collins, Collins Aerospace, for 37 years as an electrical engineer. Spinks (call sign AA0KW) has been an amateur radio operator, or “ham, ” for 52 years. He was first licensed as a junior in high school. He has witnessed many types of technologies and yet touched only a few…many more await exploration. Communication opportunities are expanding every year, as technology moves forward. The museum will open at1 p.m. and the one-hour program will followed by a discussion/questions and answers period and a reception. This is the second of a series of programs about the current exhibition, The Collins Story: on the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing which runs through February 29, 2020 in collaboration with the Arthur A. Collins Legacy Association. The exhibition is sponsored in part by the City of Marion Hotel Motel grant program. Admission to the exhibition and all the outreach programs in the series is free courtesy of a grant from The McIntyre Foundation of Cedar Rapids.
